Socio-cultural aspects of ICT

When it comes to socio-cultural aspects of ICT, I decided to write about cyberbullying. What is cyberbullying

There are two kinds of cyberbullying, direct attacks, and cyberbullying by proxy (using others to help cyberbully the victim, either with or without the accomplice's knowledge). Because cyberbullying by proxy often gets adults involved in the harassment, it is much more dangerous. Direct attacks can be messages ho are sent directly to someone.

Today's children, youth and adults spend much time on the internet. there are many social media such as facebook, twitter and blogs, which are used by all ages. The opportunities for bullying, harassing and being rude is much easier today than it was before. Before the mobile phones and the Internet came on the 90's people had to meet face to face or write notes or letters to bully. This was easier to spot than what goes over the internet. The fact that one sits hidden behind a computer screen do many bullies rougher, because they are not afraid of being discovered. Cyber bullying does not just have to be that someone writes vicious things, calling names, are rude or such. It may also be that someone are pretending to be someone else. Or that  movies or pictures of somebody get posted online, without theyr permission. Many post photos of each other on facebook, where many can go in and comment. It is not always the comments are nice.

The figures for cyber-bullying is increasing unfortunately. Many of those who perform this type of bullying is very young.
I've searched on youtube and found a film with excellent attention to various forms of cyber-bullying. The film was produced for British Childnet. It's about Joe, who is being bullied by various digital devices.

The threshold for digital bullying is often lower than bullying in person. Behind a screen and a keyboard is easier to say things one does not dare to say directly and send pictures that should not have been sent.
The injury becomes much worse when it comes to cyber-bullying, as images and information spreads quickly and can be downloaded here and there.

What can we do to avoid cyberbullying?? Here comes some very important tips:

Parent meetings should be held where the topic is about cyber-bullying and how to use the Internet safely and smart. Then you can run the footage, and show examples in the form of images.

There is a page called "delete me" run by the Data Protection Authority. There you will find lots of useful information and advice on how to proceed if one detects unwanted information about themselves online.

What is a  network society? It is a society where the key sosial structures and activities are organized around electronically processed information networks. Here comes a video related to network society;
