Intellectual property
How would you feel if someone copied your papers, photos, music, or something else you've worked with, or something that belong to you?
That is what intellectual property is all about, and you can read the definition here!
The video you just saw is about intellectual property, patent and trademark.
What is patent? A patent protects a specific solution to a technical problem. Patents do you get if you stand behind the inventions. Invention must be a practical solution to a problem where the solution has a technical character, technical effect and is reproducible. You can not get a patent on an idea without having to explain or demonstrate how it can be implemented in practice. You can not have a patent on a business concept.
Procedures, products, devices and applications can be patented, such as blood analysis, computer technology and zips.
Many teachers today find out that their students have copied homework, texts, and more from Internet, and provided it as their own work. There are many websites where students can copy in all subjects. Examples of sites:
this, daria, and this. And here is also a page with links to more.
Number of students who cheat are much higher at several of our major institutions last year than ever. And scientists at the University of Oslo is located at the top of the list, according to a survey Aftenposten has done. The penalty for cheating ranges from cancellation of an assignment or examination (small reaction) to expulsion from the institution, and other educational institutions in Norway, in one or two semesters. Plagiarism of text is the kind of cheating that dominates among Norwegian students. Use of cheat patch and mobile phone in the examination also occurs, but far less.
It's not necessarily that there is more cheating now than before, but it is easier to cheat because there are several possibilities. It is also that it is easier to detect cheating today, considering all the applications you can use, such as plagiarism control tool Ephorus.
Ephorus is a text recognition program that compares your essay with previous exam papers and documents posted online. If the program finds similarity between you and someone else's text, you can be caught for plagiarism according to this site.
The univerety in Bergen has made a good film that is about plagiating:
And here is a good presentation about copyright:
There is an organization that works to protect personal property which is posted on the web.

WIPO's main objective is to promote the development of intellectual property rights worldwide and is the central international organization in this area.WIPO has 182 member countries and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
